Transient
Light could be described as a cross section of my current compositional work.
Through the music flows material that I have used and developed in my
compositions over the past years. The piece is dedicated to Hervé Joulain whose
expressive musicianship served as an inspiration for the work.

Sebastian Fagerlund
currently works as a freelance composer based in Helsinki. Recent orchestral
works include a Violin Concerto for violinist Pekka Kuusisto commissioned by
the Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra and a Concerto for Guitar and Symphony
Orchestra commissioned by The Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra. In 2011
Fagerlund was awarded Finland’s most renowned music prize, the Teosto Prize,
for his orchestral work Ignite. The same year Ignite was also selected as a
recommended work at the International Rostrum of Composers 2011 in Vienna.

His
music has been described as flowing, fast-moving and rich in sound. The fast
flow and rhythmic elasticity are often offset by fragile and lyrically
sensitive episodes, and the shift between mobility and immobility is in fact
one of the salient features of Fagerlund’s music. A highly virtuotic
instrumental feel and a strong sense of musicianship is manifested in all his
works creating musical dramas in which powerful expression is combined with
intensity and communicativeness.Fagerlund has been Artistic Director of the International
Rusk- Chamber Music Festival in Jakobstad in Finland since 2013.
