Sonate à quattro in A minor

Grave – Allegro, Adagio – Allegro – Largo e staccato, Allegro

Telemann’s A minor Sonata was clearly highly thought of as copies exist from the concertmasters of both Darnstadt and Dresden. It begins with a solemn Introduction and develops into what Pramsohler calls a patchwork sonata. The Allegro descends into a regular hunting rhythm, even imitating horns, followed by a lament perhaps for the death of the quarry. A short fine fugue follows before the staccato introduction to a wild finale.
