In December West Cork Music and the Royal Irish Academy of Music, once more partnered to bring together promising young quartets with top international chamber musicians. Xandi van Dijk from Signum Quartet delivered a week of masterclasses with other RIAM teachers to 40 students, including 6 string quartets and some young composers from the RIAM Composition Programme and students from the Young Artist Programme.
As well as performance workshops, Xandi led 2 hour long #Quartweet workshops and for many of the young musicians and composers this was their first experience collaborating in this manner.
Xandi’s teaching was at such a high level in terms of the combination of detail, demand, efficiency, analysis, depth of understanding, stylistic choice, and it is so hugely valuable for the students to have intensive teaching at this level…this access to a top international level of specialism and teaching is a highlight of the year for so many of the students. 3 bachelor’s level quartets have continued on from last year and I think this is primarily due to the focus and inspiration from last years’ masterclasses. – Prof. Sarah Sew, Head of Strings and Chamber Music RIAM
