What makes a translation different to an original – and can you tell them apart? Take a deep dive into the minutiae of translated fiction and explore voice, syntax and experimentation with Katy Derbyshire, prizewinning translator of German author Judith Hermann and former Dublin Literary Award judge. In a relaxed atmosphere, we’ll be examining anonymised passages and asking you to “spot the translation” to sharpen your own reading, writing or indeed translating practice. With plenty of time for questions about the task of the translator, you should come away with a whole new literary worldview!

This event is aimed at anyone who is interested in translated literature and no translation experience is needed.
