Amnesiac is the illuminating, moving and surprising memoir of Academy Award-winning film director, screenwriter and author Neil Jordan. Reflecting on both the ghosts of his past and his personal triumphs, this is a deeply intimate account of one of Ireland's greatest storytellers.

In his first memoir, Neil takes us behind the scenes and shares the story of his life, family, relationships, friendships and career. He writes entertainingly about the making of great films and about his encounters with eccentric, brilliant filmmakers like Stanley Kubrick. But, much more than a story of great accomplishment, Amnesiac also movingly explores Neil’s childhood, his relationship with his father, and his family’s past.

Born in Sligo in 1950, Neil Jordan inherited from his parents a strong visual gift, a love of music and an interest in the uncanny. At the age of 26, Neil published his first book, Night in Tunisia, which won a Somerset Maugham Award and the Guardian Fiction Prize and established him as a rising literary star. His novel, The Past, followed and further cemented his reputation.

As an acclaimed film director and screenwriter, Neil’s credits include Mona Lisa, Michael Collins, The Butcher Boy, The Company of Wolves and Interview with a Vampire. In 1992, his film The Crying Game won the Academy award for Best Original Screenplay and the BAFTA Award for Best British Film. He has worked with actors including Stephen Rea, Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise, Forest Whittaker, Bob Hoskins and many others, creating movies that relish the supernatural, the irrational and the dreamlike aspects of the lives we live.
