4. Young Composers Forum
Each year since 2008 the Festival has run a Composition Competition for young (under 35) Irish composers that from 2010 was exclusively for string quartets to align the Competition with the Festival's Quartet Masterclasses. The Competition is adjudicated by the Festival’s Composer-in-Residence, who this year is Deirdre Gribbin. Past winners have included Sebastian Adams, Solfa Carlile, Séan Doherty, Anne Cleare, Benedict Schlepper-Connolly, Emma O’Halloran, Amanda Feery and many others. The prize for each winner is €1,000 and a Festival workshop and performance. In this Workshop each new work will be performed, followed by a three-way discussion between composer, Quartet and Composer-in-Residence. Winners of the competition will be announced in late April.
