3. Young Musicians Series
The young Sonic Quartet are students at Music Academy in Dublin on their second visit to the Festival masterclasses. The four musicians are Maxim Novojilov, Julia Antolec, Shane Quinn and Doiréann Ní Aodáin. They have chosen a dramatic programme featuring three adventurous works as one expects from young musicians. Schulhoff spent the 1920s experimenting with different styles. His Five Pieces is a popular, tongue-in-cheek pastiche of different dances, great fun for audience and musicians. 'Satellites' by Garth Knox is one of Kronos Quartet's 'Fifty for the Future' series, specially composed to give young musicians the experience of modern performance techniques. Finally they take on one of Beethoven's earliest C minor works, a key he reserved for his most dramatic works.
