Delving deep into Thoreau we will then explore nature and place in the international canon of this art form from the nature writings of Masanobu Fukuoka and Peter Matthiessen to the Irish tradition with books from the blasket writers and on up to the modern day with books such as John’s own The Cow book to explore how nature and place can lead us in new directions into uncovering the hidden world that lies before us.

This will be a wide ranging course but will ground the participants in the best of nature and place writing and give them a good footing into what they might want to write themselves.
