Bridging the Chasm 2
Like Mozart, Schubert’s prodigious output of compositions began very young. He was born into a musical family that could generate a family string quartet with Schubert himself on viola, his brothers on violins and father on cello. So plenty of impetus pushing the thirteen year old schoolboy to write his first quartet. Dizu Plaatjies became famous through his percussion ensemble Anampondo and has since developed his ideas of cultural exchange. He worked with Matthijis van Dijk on this short new quartet. Mozart’s G major Spring Quartet is the first in his set of six he dedicated to Haydn. He was following in his mentor’s footsteps by seeking to make their new artform more popular by creating an irresistibly exuberant and joyful work.
