Fiain is Irish for wild and tempestuous and was dedicated to Crash in celebration of their 20th birthday wishing them many more wild years. Linda Buckley’s Chrysalism is the amniotic tranquillity of being indoors during a thunderstorm. Barry O’Halpin’s Lipids is driven by abstract yet very physical imagery, the three instruments, guitar, clarinet, cello, chasing each other’s tails. Gribbin’s Provoked City (bass, cello) is a reaction to the altered fabric of a great city in the grip of the pandemic. Deane’s Quadripartita is a string quartet with second violin replaced by bass, a line-up mot unnaturally favoured by bassist Malachy Robinson, who commissioned the piece.
