Deirdre Gribbin’s new quartet Dark Matter Hunting was commissioned for Doric Quartet to premiere in the original 25th Festival in 2020. After this and the 2021 Festivals were cancelled the Pacifica Quartet was filmed performing it at the Auer Hall in Indiana. It was composed to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the Hubble Telescope and is dedicated to the astrophysicist Priya Natarjan. Meanwhile the search for Dark Matter continues.
Earlier in the concert Doric Quartet continue their Bartók cycle with the Second Quartet from 2018, often seen as the most immediately appealing of the whole set with its impressionist, oriental colours. Schubert’s much-loved Quartettsatz always leaves us with the question mark as to what the other three movements could have been.
