This concert is dedicated to the life of Ulrike Crespo, a long-time and generous supporter of this Festival, who died suddenly last autumn.
Thomas Larcher was featured composer at the Festival eight years ago and even before that the Festival programmed this brilliant, acerbic, hard-hitting song cycle that needs a very special singer.
Deirdre Gribbin is another Festival regular. Her new quartet Dark Matter Hunting is a Festival commission and is written to celebrate the thirtieth anniversary of the Hubble Telescope. Dark matter is said to hold galaxies together much in the way music holds the world together.
Before the great E flat Trio by Schubert, the three musicians will play a short trio Ulrike’s Waltz by Wolfgang Tiepold, commissioned by Raimond Trenkler of the Kronberg Academy for Ulrike Crespo’s 50th birthday.
Schubert’s Second Piano Trio is one of his magisterial late works, which should need no introduction – the three young musicians will do him and us proud.
