Book cover of Neil Jordan's Amnesiac memoir

Neil Jordan was born in Sligo in 1950 and inherited from his parents a strong visual gift, a love of music and an interest in the uncanny. At the age of 26, Neil published his first book, Night in Tunisia, which won a Somerset Maugham Award and the Guardian Fiction Prize and established him as a rising literary star. His novel, The Past, followed and further cemented his reputation.

As an acclaimed film director and screenwriter, Neil’s credits include Mona Lisa, Michael Collins, The Butcher Boy, The Company of Wolves and Interview with a Vampire. In 1992, his film The Crying Game won the Academy award for Best Original Screenplay and the BAFTA Award for Best British Film. He has worked with actors including Stephen Rea, Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise, Forest Whittaker, Bob Hoskins and many others, creating movies that relish the supernatural, the irrational and the dreamlike aspects of the lives we live. Neil’s first memoir Amnesiac: A Memoir was published by Apollo in June 2024.
