Maria O’Connor holds a BMus and MA in Performance from the Cork School of Music (CSM). A prize-winning cellist, she has won the Clyde Twelvtrees Cup at Feis Ceoil, Senior Cello at Feis Maitiu, and the CSM Concerto Competition. She has performed as a soloist with the CSM Symphony Orchestra and received the CSM Director’s Prize.
An avid chamber musician, Maria has performed at festivals and venues in Ireland and abroad such as the West Cork Chamber Music Festival, the RDS Rising Stars Series, and the Centre Culturel Irlandais in Paris. She regularly tours with the Vanbrugh Quartet in their chamber music series throughout Ireland.
Maria is the cellist with the contemporary ensemble Strung, performing in France, Turkey, Germany, and Sweden, with televised features on TG4 and RTÉ. She is principal cellist with the Irish Memory Orchestra and performs with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra and Cork Opera House Orchestra. Maria is currently an Assistant Lecturer in Musicianship at the MTU Cork School of Music.
