Emmanuel Carlier began his bow-making apprenticeship in 2005. Two years later, he joined Pierre Guillaume in Brussels with whom he developed his taste for old bows. In 2013/2014, he did a residence at Villa Medici, the french academy in Roma. Early 2022, he opened a new workshop in Paris with Charles Coquet, violin maker.

Many of his bows are now played in major orchestras around the world.

Awards :

– “Hors Concours”, Violin Society of America, 7 gold medals (2024, 2016 and 2012).

– “Meilleur Ouvrier de France”, 2019

– Best Playing Viola Bow, Darling Bow Making Competition – Amsterdam 2016

– Gold medal and Silver medal, International Violin and Bow Making Competition, Mittenwald 2010.
