Belfast born composer Deirdre Gribbin’s music was described in The London Times as “…astonishingly accomplished,…. so powerfully expressive that it communicates its meaning instantly.”

Deirdre has enjoyed an association with West Cork Chamber Music for 25 years resulting in commissions including Kindersang, subsequently performed at Lincoln Center New York and Dark Matter Hunting; a collaboration with astrophysicist Priya Natarajan, premiered by the Doric quartet.

Her music has been played in 30 countries and recorded on 15 labels including scores for feature length films including Margo Harkin’s Stolen, about Ireland’s Mother and Baby home scandal and My Kingdom starring Richard Harris. She won the Arts Foundation Award for opera, the UNESCO Composers Prize and a Major Arts Council Northern Ireland Individual Artist Award, MIA. Performances include Unity of Being at UKwithNY in New York after 9/11 and Hearing your Genes Evolve, at EU Innovations, Brussels.

Orchestral work has been performed by the BBC Symphony, Philharmonia, Northern Sinfonia, Danish Radio, National Symphony, RTE Concert and Saarbrucken Orchestras. Her cello concerto Mna was premiered by Natalie Clein and The Ulster Orchestra on BBC Radio 3. She is artistic director of Venus Blazing Music Trust working with young adults with learning disabilities.
