Claire Connolly FLSW MRIA IntFRSE is Professor of Modern English at University College Cork in Ireland and Arts, Humanities and Social Science Secretary for the Royal Irish Academy. She has been O’Brien Professor at Concordia University in Montreal, Parnell Fellow at Magdalene College, Cambridge and Burns Professor of Irish Studies at Boston College. With Marjorie Howes (Boston College), she was General Editor of the six-volume series, Irish Literature in Transition, 1700-2020 (Cambridge University Press, 2020). An interdisciplinary researcher, she has led projects funded by Research Ireland (Deep Maps: West Cork Coastal Cultures, 2017-2019) and the European Regional Development Fund (Ports, Past and Present, 2019-2023). Her new book, Irish Romanticism: a Literary History, will be published by Cambridge University Press. Claire wrote the prefaces to new editions of Experiences of an Irish R.M. and The Real Charlotte by Somerville and Ross which were published by Riverrun Editions in November 2024
