Fleur Pierets

Genres: LGBTQI+ | Non-Fiction | Translation

Fleur Pierets is an award-winning Belgian performance artist, writer, speaker and LGBTQ+ activist whose work balances between photography and theory, performance and non-fiction. Together with her wife, Julian P. Boom, she founded Et Alors?, a magazine featuring conversations with queer musicians, visual artists, writers, and performers. In 2017, Fleur and Julian started Project 22, a performance art piece in which the couple planned to marry in every country to have legalised same-sex marriage at the time. Following the untimely death of her wife in 2018, after only four marriages, Fleur turned to writing, which lead to her debut memoir in English, Julian (3TimesRebel Press, 2023). Fleur’s two-volume children’s book Love Around the World and Love is Love – in which Fleur and Julian fulfil the beautiful dream of Project 22 — was published in the US in 2020 by Six Foot Press. A children’s book (October 2023) and novel (Autumn 2024) are forthcoming from Dutch publisher, Das Mag. Pierets regularly lectures on LGBTQ+ issues at businesses and institutions across the globe, including Google and the UN. Julian is currently being adapted into a film by Oscar-nominated filmmaker, Lukas Dhont.

Fleur Pierets’ attendance at West Cork Literary Festival is supported by Flanders Literature as part of their Flip Through Flanders programme.
