For two frenetic weeks in July, Kuhmo in Eastern Finland is host to a chamber music festival attracting thousands of music lovers. In that fortnight, this town of 9,000 inhabitants echoes to the sound of music against a backcloth of a lake that almost laps the walls of the concert halls in the clear, unbelievable northern light.
It can be said, with no false modesty, that Gidon Kremer achieved a sensational success with Lockenhaus’s first chamber music festival in 1981. 30 years later the idea of “exposure of the over-commercialised music business” had become established and once a year transforms the little Burgenland town of Lockenhaus into the centre of the chamber music world.

Lofoten International Chamber Music Festival has been around since 2004. From summer 2014, Lofoten Piano Festival alternates every year with the Lofoten International Chamber Music Festival. Both the Chamber Music Festival and the Piano Festival present concerts and lectures of the highest class. Criticized and celebrated artists from the international music scene guests Lofoten every summer, and the combination of classical chamber music / piano music, Lofoten’s beautiful concert churches and the overwhelming nature give the audience a complete set of experiences they rarely forget.

“Risør Chamber Music Festival is an ideal foundation aimed at organizing an annual chamber music festival, featuring central classical music as well as recent repertoire. Efforts should be made to find musicians – both Norwegian and foreign – who hold a recognized high artistic level or who have documented an indisputable talent. The chamber music festival will be a national and international forum for chamber music and will also stimulate music and cultural life in Risør and the region. “
