- The sad passing of Anton Timoney
It is with much sadness we mourn the passing of Anton Timoney, who died recently after a long battle with illness. Anton was a senior producer with RTÉ, but we all knew him as the audio maestro who masterminded the recording of the chamber music festival concerts. These recordings were then broadcast in Ireland by Lyric and then all over the world by the European Broadcasting Union. Anton began doing these festival recordings back in the Nineties and continued until his retirement just before Covid. He took enormous pride in producing the Festival recordings and delighted in finding ways to assert the primacy of the music-making without intruding on the musicians’ space. More than most he was aware of the extraordinary quality of the Bantry performances and treated them with the love and respect they deserved. Thanks to his work the festival concerts have been heard on four continents and you can listen to his work on the West Cork Music Archive. He was hoping to be back in Bantry this summer, we shall miss his wise remarks and laconic comments. We offer our condolences to all his family and friends.
