To mark the 25th Anniversary of the 1989 Revolutions in Eastern Europe, award-winning Romanian author Carmen Bugan reads from Burying the Typewriter: Childhood Under the Eye of the Secret Police which featured on BBC Radio 4 Book at Bedtime, has been shortlisted for the Orwell Prize and hailed as, ‘a modern classic’ by the Sunday Times.

At 2 am on 10 March 1983, Carmen Bugan’s father left the family home, alone. That afternoon, Carmen returned from school to find secret police in her living room. Her father’s protest against the regime had changed her life for ever.
